From Microkernel Geek to Tech Advocacy Pioneer

The first time I killed a production server, I was eight years old. Not deliberately, of course. My mother was a systems administrator for a midsize insurance company in the late 90s, and I’d begged her to let me “see the computers” where she worked. During a quiet weekend maintenance window, she relented, likely thinking I’d be bored within minutes. Instead, I was transfixed by the blinking server room lights and the gentle hum of cooling fans. When Mom stepped away to grab coffee, my curious fingers found their way to a keyboard. Three commands later, I’d accidentally triggered a complete system restart during a critical database update.

That catastrophic Saturday sparked something in me—not shame, but fascination. How could such simple commands hold such power?
